Dr. Sanchez-Molina studied biomedicine at the University of Seville (Spain) in 2015. During her undergraduate studies, she conducted an internship at the Immunology Service of the Virgen del Rocio Hospital investigating novel mechanisms of immunodeficiencies. One year later, she obtained a master’s degree in neuroscience at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain). In 2021, she received her PhD in neuroscience from the same institution under the supervision of Dr. Bernardo Castellano. Her doctoral research focused on studying the role of microglial cells and the impact of brain-derived cytokines on physiological aging. Additionally, Dr. Sanchez-Molina broadened her expertise through an internship at the Institut Pasteur of Montevideo (Uruguay), where she studied inflammatory and metabolic mechanisms associated with physiological aging under the guidance of Dr. Hugo Peluffo. In December 2021, she joined Dr. Bahareh Ajami’s lab at Oregon Health and Science University (USA) as a postdoctoral fellow. Here, Dr. Sanchez-Molina is characterizing microglial cells in the brain of Alzheimer’s disease patients and investigating the contribution of peripheral immune cells in neurodegenerative disorders.
