Daisy Shu is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Saint-Geniez Laboratory at Schepens Eye Research Institute of Mass Eye and Ear in the Department of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School. Her research is focused on understanding the role of mitochondria and metabolism in retinal eye diseases. She is a current recipient of the BrightFocus Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in Macular Degeneration Research. Her previous awards include the Fight for Sight Leonard & Robert Weintraub Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, American Academy of Optometry Ezell Fellowship, and American Society for Investigative Pathology (ASIP) Experimental Pathologist-in Training Merit Award. She completed her optometry degree at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, and her PhD in growth factor signaling pathways driving cataract formation at the University of Sydney, Australia, under the mentorship of Prof. Frank Lovicu. She is currently the International Society of Eye Research (ISER) Young Investigator Representative and serves on several committees, including the ARVO Professional Development and Education Committee, Harvard Medical Postdoc Association, and ASIP Committee for Career Development and Diversity. Daisy is passionate about science communication and completed the ARVO Science Communication Training Fellowship, co-hosts a podcast called “Behind Our Science” and actively updates her social media platforms @EyeDaisyShu on Twitter and Instagram.
