Richard Perrin, MD, PhD

Richard J. Perrin is an assistant professor and practicing neuropathologist at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis (WUSTL). He earned his BS degree in molecular biophysics and biochemistry at Yale, and his MD and PhD degrees in molecular and integrative physiology in the Medical Scholars Program at the University of Illinois. His doctoral work on alpha-synuclein, a protein involved in Parkinson’s disease, cemented his professional interest in understanding and curing neurodegenerative diseases. After completing his residency and fellowship in neuropathology at WUSTL, he launched his current research mission there as a fellow in the laboratories of Anne M. Fagan, PhD, and David M. Holtzman, MD. Dr. Perrin’s laboratory is focused on the discovery, characterization, and validation of novel cerebrospinal fluid and plasma biomarkers for early diagnosis, prognosis and monitoring of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other neurodegenerative diseases.
