Dr. Rayne Lim, originally from Singapore, is a passionate postdoctoral fellow at the University of Washington and a contributor to the field of ophthalmology. Her commitment to deciphering the molecular mechanisms behind early events in retinal diseases, including diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration, has driven her research efforts throughout her scientific career. She earned her Bachelor in Biological Sciences from the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and embarked on her professional journey as a research technician at the Singapore Eye Research Institute. Her experience of working with vision scientists from diverse backgrounds—clinical, basic, and translational—has provided her with a unique interdisciplinary perspective and solidified her dedication to ophthalmological research. Pursuing academic excellence, she completed her doctoral studies in the University of Missouri, where she established a novel swine model for the study of diabetic retinopathy. Her research has culminated in 16 notable publications, each contributing valuable knowledge to the field of ophthalmology. With future goals centered on expanding the current understanding of the complement system in the RPE, Dr. Lim continues to demonstrate her dedication to scientific progress and identifying novel therapeutic targets for retinal diseases.
