Catharina Grubaugh, PhD, graduated magna cum laude with honors from Middlebury College in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in biology and received her PhD in biological sciences from Fordham University in 2017. Following a postdoctoral fellowship in the Laboratory for Familial Dysautonomia Research at Fordham University under the mentorship of Dr. Berish Rubin, Dr. Grubaugh began her retinal research in the lab of Dr. Gustavo Aguirre at the School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania. There, she studied the effects of genetic mutations on retinal health in dogs and mice. In 2022, Dr. Grubaugh accepted a position as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Kathleen Boesze-Battaglia’s lab at the School of Dental Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania to study lipid metabolism in the retinal pigment epithelium.
