I am an ophthalmologist specialized in the genetics of glaucoma and retinal dystrophies. I lived in Tanzania and worked at the CCBRT Hospital in Dar es Salaam for 5 years. During that time I specialized in glaucoma in African patients by setting up the GIGA study in Tanzania and South Africa. Since 2015 I work at the Dept. Ophthalmology at Erasmus MC, Rotterdam the Netherlands, and supervise PhD-students, Pieter Bonnemaijer and Sjoerd Driessen with their PhD study on the genetics in primary open angle-glaucoma in patients of African descent (GIGA study). Since 2017 we expanded the inclusion site of the GIGA study to Kumasi, Ghana. I have ~ 30 publications on genetics of eye diseases.
