Metabolism and Metabolic Defects in AMD

My research focuses on investigating retinal metabolism in both healthy and diseased states. Specifically, we aim to uncover the unique metabolic processes occurring within individual cells as well as the interactions between cells that create the metabolic ecosystem of the retina. Our research also focuses on understanding how retinal metabolism is affected by aging and retinal degenerative diseases, such as inherited retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. By identifying the metabolic basis of these diseases, we hope to develop nutrition-based treatment approaches that target the altered metabolic pathways in retinal diseases.
