Identification of autoreactive T cells in AMD Patients

Principal Investigator

Project Goals

The experiments in this proposal will address the mechanisms underlying immune attack in the retina. This information could lead to treatment approaches not currently available.

Project Summary

The back of the eye where light is detected is a site where light induced modifications of ocular components can occur as individuals age, and these modifications accumulate. The immune system is designed to distinguish anything that differs from normal body components, so these modifications can cause the immune system to attack the back of the eye and compromise vision. The experiments in this proposal will address the mechanisms underlying this immune attack. This information could lead to treatment approaches not currently available.
