"Over the past 10 years, Zahra Shirzadi, PhD, has worked and studied in the field of neurodegenerative disease as a research engineer at Sunnybrook Research Institute, a graduate student at the University of Toronto, and a research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. During this time, she has led and collaborated on several projects and grants with an international group of researchers by providing insights in ideation, algorithm development, and data analyses, resulting in several journal articles and conference presentations.
From this experience, Dr. Shirzadi developed academic and professional skills that equipped her with the knowledge needed to shape future research themes. Her career goal is to become a leading scientist and professor in the field of neuroimaging, focusing on novel imaging technologies to study cognitive impairment and dementia.
By elucidating critical mechanisms and identifying imaging biomarkers of disease, Dr. Shirzadi hopes that her research will contribute to the development of innovative prevention and treatment strategies for dementia within her lifetime. She also hopes that her work will inspire younger generations from diverse backgrounds to join this initiative to end Alzheimer's and all other dementias."
