Yifan Jian, PhD

Oregon Health & Science University
Portland, OR

Dr. Yifan Jian is an Assistant Professor of Casey Eye Institute since 2018. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Shanghai University for Science and Technology in 2010, and his Ph.D. degree from Simon Fraser University, Canada in 2014. Dr. Jian continued his research at Simon Fraser University as a University Research Associate until he joined faculty of Casey Eye Institute. Currently, his research focuses on functional and structural imaging of the retina with capabilities achieving from the highest possible resolution to widest possible field of view. Since his doctoral study, Dr. Jian pioneered two important and challenging research topics, GPU accelerated real-time volumetric optical coherence tomography (OCT) and sensorless adaptive optics (SAO) OCT, through a series of pivotal publications. He has extensive experience in developing OCT systems including, SAO-OCT, OCT angiography (OCTA), and wide-field OCT systems for both human and small animal retinal imaging. His research laboratory has been well funded by National Health Institute, BrightFocus Foundation and Research to Prevent Blindness. He has established international collaborations with clinicians and vision scientists and built several imaging systems for collaborative studies. These imaging systems have been deployed in research labs and clinics worldwide and are making impact in both basic science and clinical research.
