Dr. Mercedes Prudencio is an associate professor in the Department of Neuroscience at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Prudencio grew up in Spain where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in biology, and then emigrated to the USA and obtained her PhD in biomedical sciences-neuroscience at the University of Florida. Under the guidance of Dr. David Borchelt, her PhD work focused on animal models and protein aggregation of SOD1 in ALS. She then continued towards her postdoctoral training at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, working with Dr. Leonard Petrucelli, and developed skills in transcriptomics and biomarker development. Dr. Prudencio’s independent research program is focused on TDP-43, and she is interested in evaluating how TDP-43 differentially contributes to Alzheimer’s diseases and related dementias. Her lab's goal is to find novel targets for therapeutic intervention and/or biomarker development.
