Dr. Emiliano Zamponi received his Ph.D. in Biology from the National University of Córdoba, Argentina, where he studied the molecular mechanisms underlying cellular senescence in human autosomal trisomies. He then completed his first postdoctoral training at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he studied the factors that shape the axonal ER network and their role in hereditary spastic paraplegias. Currently, Dr. Zamponi is completing his second postdoctoral training at the Zuckerman Institute of Columbia University, where he is interested in the mechanisms that control mitochondrial structure, composition, and function in fast-spiking parvalbumin interneurons under healthy and pathological conditions, particularly in Alzheimer's disease.
