Dr. Brittany Butts is an assistant professor at Emory University. She received a BS in Biology from the University of the Virgin Islands and a BS in Nursing from Georgia State University. She completed her doctoral training at Emory University and her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. Her research is focused on understanding pathophysiologic mechanisms in persons with cardiovascular disease that relate to Alzheimer’s disease risk and physical/emotional symptoms that may serve as targets of interventions to improve patient outcomes. Dr. Butts’ ongoing work focuses on understanding Alzheimer’s disease vascular risk factors in middle-aged adults with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, the role of social determinants of health in inflammatory markers and symptoms in Black adults with heart failure, cellular aging and stress in family caregivers of persons with dementia and of persons with heart failure, and metabolic correlates of physical and emotional symptoms in Black adults living with heart failure. Dr. Butts completed BrightFocus Foundation’s Alzheimer’s Fast Track program. She is actively involved in the Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment and in the American Heart Association, where she has multiple leadership roles and earned a Fellowship.
