Andrew Nguyen, PhD, is an assistant professor at Saint Louis University in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine. He received his PhD in integrative biology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Since his time as a postdoctoral fellow at the Gladstone Institutes/UCSF and at Harvard School of Public Health, he has been investigating progranulin—a lysosomal and secreted protein that has neurotrophic properties and is linked to frontotemporal dementia and Alzheimer's disease. A major effort in his lab focuses on developing and testing therapeutic strategies for increasing progranulin levels for these forms of dementia.
