Alexandra Litvinchuk, PhD

Washington University in St. Louis
St. Louis, MO

Dr. Alexandra Litvinchuk graduated with the highest honors from Lomonosov Moscow State University, where she obtained her BSc and MSc degrees in Bioengineering and Bioinformatics and studied the mechanisms of prion protein formation and protein aggregation in baker's yeast S. cerevisiae. Dr. Litvinchuk obtained her Ph.D. at Baylor College of Medicine, where she worked on the mechanisms of neuro-immune interactions and complement pathways in the regulation of tau and amyloid pathologies in Alzheimer's disease under the supervision of Dr. Hui Zheng. Dr. Litvinchuk has received several awards, including the Estela E. Medrano Award for Excellence in Research on Aging, Alzheimer's Association International Conference and International Society for Neurochemistry ISN-ESN Travel Awards, and the F1000 outstanding presentation award at the New York Academy of Sciences. As a postdoctoral scholar in Dr. David Holtzman's laboratory, Dr. Litvinchuk studies the molecular mechanisms of lipid accumulation in glia of Alzheimer's disease mouse models and has been involved in the translational therapeutics research to reduce the ApoE4 expression in the animal models of tauopathy and Alzheimer's disease using antisense oligonucleotides.
